OFFICIAL CELEBRATION

ADVERTISING EXHIBITION.

LUNCHEON AT TOWN w*T.T.

VALUE OF PUBLICITY.

Over 2000 people visited the exhibition of the Auckland Advertising Club yesterday, great interest being taken in the fine advertising displays. "The Model House" proved a great attraction, and so many wished to see through this modern miniature structure that they had to be admitted in relays. To-mor-row being Empire Day, children from the primary and secondary schools will be admitted free between 10 and 12 o'clock. As there is an essay competition the visit of the children will be in the nature of an inspection on which to base their essays.

The Advertising Club gave a luncheon in the supper room of the Town Hall at one o'clock to-day, the president of the club, Mr. L. A. Eady, occupying the chair. There were about 150 guests present.

The chairman in welcoming the guests spoke of the position advertising had reached in the world to-day. It was an important force, and an essential factor in the prosperity of Britisli trade and commerce. He was proud of the achievements of the Government in this respect. In the modern acceptance of advertising it had been realised by all concerned that the kevnote waa truth and sincerity.

His Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. Baildon), who was the principal guest, complimented the club on the progress it had made. Hoardings to-day were more like works of art, and in great contrast to what were tolerated in the years gone by.

Mr. J. W. Collins, Secretary for the Department of Industries and Commerce, said New Zealand was in full co-opera-tion with the Empire Marketing Board, and whenever the board made an exhibit the Dominion had space allotted. Mr. H. T. Merritt, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. W. J. Holdswortb, chairman of the Auckland Power Board, and Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association, also addressed the gathering, each congratulating the club on its fine exhibition.
