MANUKAU BEAT H.M.S. DUNEDIN.
The game between Manukan and H.M.s. Dunedin was Tagged from the kick-off, but Manukau pressed hard. Rata was responsible for some brilliant play; bat the Navy returned to the attack and were awarded a free kick. The shot missed. In the second quarter the Navy attacked strongly, Cargen saving Well. A penalty to Manukau was turned to full advantage' by Rata. From a scram the ball travelled the length of the Manukau backs. Albon scoring. Rata missed the kick. Manukau 6, H.M.s. Dunedin 0. At the commencement of the third quarter the Navy backs were combining well, and attacked fiercely, compelling Manukau to force, twice. Sturmey was playing a great defensive game for Manukau. A penalty kick to Navy missed.! Manukau. backs gave a good exhibition In J the last quarter, Bryers being prominent. Sturmey was well taken near the Navy line, and shortly afterwards Navy had another unsuccessful shot at goal. Play ended with Manukau attacking strongly. City gave another good display in beating a .weakened Marlst fifteen by 18 points to 9.- '•* Played at the Show Grounds, the game Srovlded a keenly-contested struggle, tansts drew first blood, Johnston going across for /an;- unconverted try. City, however, were not out to take any nonsense, and Fletcher and Magee scored in quick succession, neither try being converted. Playing with great dash City came.again, and Dobson scored between the posts, B. Fletcher goaling.Before half-time Mariits added three points'as the result of . a Score by Jeffries, following a break-away by Downing and Moore. "w* %
The game resumed in bright fashion, but It was not until well through the quarter that Ellis ..potted a neat goal from the field for City, giving them a nine-point lead. Kerr-Taylor showed out in some fine defensive work, the blues being unable to thrust home their attacks. Tired out, the teams straggled on, and Fell scrambled over to Increase; City's lead with an unconverted try. With a final burst Mafist, led by Peters, got to the line, and when the ball came out toiStoupe he went over for a welldeserved try. The kick failed, and the game ended with the scores:
