RUGBY FOOTBALL
SATURDAY'S BIG DAY.
PONSONBY AND CITY WIN.
FIRSTS POINTS TO RIFLES.
Excepting the players, the referee, and the line umpires, the busiest man at Eden Park on Saturday was the one in charge of the score board. In the big game, in which Pottsonby never looked like going down to Grafton, he hoisted 48 points, 34 of which he put to. the champions' credit. Grafton came away in good style in the final session, and those of the crowd of between five and six thousand who started for home at the end of the third quarter missed the most likely football of the afternoon. In the curtain-raiser Grammar showed much improved form in running University to ah eight-point draw. At the Showgrounds City beat a weakened Mariets fifteen 18—0, while College Rifles went over to Devonport and beat Shore by the margin of a dropped goal. Manukau played a friendly game with H.M.s. Dunedin, and won by six points, the Jack Tars Tailing to score.
