THE AUCKLAND CENTRE.
MR. J. ENWRIGHT'S RESIGNATION.
Members of the Auckland Swimming Centre met last evening. Tiie chairman (Mr. J. En wright) said that, in accordance with a minute of the previous meeting, he had reconsidered his resignation, and had decided that he was not prepared to continue as chairman. For one reason, he did not have the time to spare. In reply to Mr. H. Moore, who expressed the hope that the retiring chairman would hold the matter over, as the season was almost at an end, Mr. En wright •aid he did not think he could spare the time to carry on, but would continue as chairman until the end of the season. . , ■
It was reported that J. Meikle, a delegate to the centre and a well-known swimmer, would shortly be leaving for Chrtstchuroh. A vote of thanks for Mr. Meikle'e services was passed.
•A representative of the newly-formed Auckland University Swimming Club attended the meeting to give information concerning the club, which holds its first carnival to-night. It was stated that every assistance would be given the club if affiliated to the centre. 'Varsity Carnival. The newly-formed Auckland University (Swimming Club will hold its first carnjval, comprising swimming and diving championships, at the Tepid Baths this evening. Among the competitors will be J. P. Farrell, Hyauiason, and C. J. McLean, the Otago longdistance champion. Miss Ena Stockley,. who leaves for Wellington to-morrow evening to join the Olympic team, will give an exhibition swim.
