SOUTH CANTERBUBY MEETING

TRAINING AT RICCARTON. OVER FLAT AND FENVF.S. (By Telegraph.— Sin'cial w> "Siar.") CIIRI STCHURCiI, this day. Conditions were pleasant for training operations at Ricrarton this morning. No. 0 grass track wa« open, but most of the galloping was done on the plough. Some of the candidates Tor the South C'anterbiu-y meeting provided a fair amount of interest, but others were restricted to light tasks with the idea of sending them along a bit faster later 111 the week.

Front Rank, Impertinence, Wild Work and Tearaway were let off with useful pace work.

Fair Exchange covered six in 1.19 3-5. while Crossbow went a furlong further ill 1.30.

Silver Coot was not hurried, but Rotor reeled off seven in 1.30 2-5, and did it really well.

Honeycomb and Sprinkler broke away from the seven-furlong post. They went at a sound pace from the start and kept together for the first half-mile, when Honeycomb gradually drew away, finishing up an easy winner in 1.31 1-5. The imported horse went well all through.

Assurance and Don Jose were companions over a mile, which tliey left behind in 1.45 Tliey kept an even pace all through and were together at the. finish.

Buoyant and Lancer beat Cliickwheat in a smart spin over six furlongs.

Malmsey had Wreath ol Myrtle as a mate for a half-mile, which occupied 52 4-os. Thorndale wss given a couple of. steady circuits with a neck sweater on.

Aberfeldy and Tarleton separately did useful pace work. They gave a good display in a school over the hurdles the previous day.

Meiivale and lhe Bailiff registered 1.4 for five fuiiongs 011 the grass. Merivale looks particularly well. Koauau did useful pacing over a circuit and lw should do well over hurdles later in the year. Fresco and Moratorium were responsible for six in 1.18 1-5, a good gallop. Scoff sprinted half-a-mile up the back, going in his usual free style.

Bonatic (Tilson) and Oriflamb (E. Shaw) gave a good display over four hurdles. R6yal Land (W. Scobie) jumped the first two and th<?n was pulled off.

Solferite moved freelv in a workiu" gallop over about five furlongs. Fmora and Amor were associated over seven, which was covered in j 31 •> 5 They finished on well.

Whipcord (D. Hall) and Sir Wai (I. liilson) were companions in a school over the steeplechase fences, their exhibition being very satisfactory. . Battle Colours was given sfeadv mcing over a round. Sir Kov restricted to light exercise 011 the lead m the middle of the course.
