ROYAL NEW ZEALAND YACHT SQUADRON. CRUISING RACE TO TE KODMA. WON BY XGA TOA.

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron held a cruising race to Te Kounia, Coromandel, for the T. M. Alexander Memorial Cup, starting off Victoria wharf, Devonport, at two o'clock 011 Saturday afternoon. The wind was very light for the latter part of the journey and many boats retired. Nga Toa won by 2m 10s on corrected time from Ariki. The race was sailed in conjunction with the Devonport Yacht Club, all but four boats competing in both clubs. The course was from the starting line between the launch Maibe and the eastern end of Victoria wharf, thence through Waiheke passage, thence between Rotoroa and Ponui Island, finishing at the northern entrance to Te Kounia between the point and the launch Avis, a distance of 32, miles. All competitors had instructions to report to the judge at the finish, and were required to carry the regulation port and starboard lights after sunset.

The entries and handicaps were as follow : Ariki, scratch : lorangi, 6im : Theinia, 10m; Nga Toa. 14m; Hawene. 15m ; Waitangi, 16m: Prize, 17m ; Moana, 10m ; Victory, 20m; Heartsease, 28m; Kotiri, 31111 ; Ilex, ."Mm; little Jim, 33m ; Windward, 30m; Ida. 38m; Rangi, 40m ; Scout, 45m ; Delville, 40m. All started but Scout, and Ida.

A start was made sharp at 2 o'clock on the two-gun system, the warning gun tiring at 1.55 p.m., and the starting gun five minutes later, the intervening . minutes being marked by the usual Hags. From a very good start lorangl was first away, followed by Victory. Nga Toa, Kotirl, Prizp, Delvjlle, Moana, Waitangi, Wiudwaid, Hawene, Thelma. Heartsease, liangi, Ilex, Ariki, with Little Jim 20 minutes late.

'i'hero -was a light north-easterly wind and all had topsails and leading .libs set. At the Sandspit, lorangl led Xga Toa and Victor}- by a length, with Kotiri, Thelma, Moana, Itawene, and Prize close up. lorangi. Victory and >iga Toa held well to windward after clearing North Head, lorangi going very far up to windward. The others laid a straight course for Brown's Island beacon, but the wind became very light and backed more easterly, several having to make two tacks to weather Brown's Island. lorangi and Victory, which were well up towards Motuihi, ■ lost the wind for a time, but about 3.-15 p.m. the breeze settled down into a steady northerly, and all were able to lay down Hie Waiheke shore with Xga 'Jon loading and Ariki closing up. In Waiheke passage the wind was very light with calm patches, and Ariki led Xga Toa with Victory, Kotiri, Hawene, Prize, Ilex, Heartsease and lorangi in this order. The leading boats carried a light air through the passage and out into the gulf, but when the second division reached Kotoroa Island it was culm and Ilex. KITTY WINS TWO RACES

The Takapunia Boating Club held two races for the club's 12ft 6in one design class on Saturday afternoon. The first was for a special prize of which Kittv won. and the second was a re-sftil of a race held on December 17. Kitty also won this event.

The finishing times were: Kittv 4h 48m 6s, Delphine 41) 49m 21s, Comet Oh 3m 365, Lai Lai 5h 13m Os. Trevic 5h 13m 12s. Result: Kitty 1, Delphine 2, Trevic 3. The second race, which was adjudged on the first one, the only difference being in the handicaps, resulted : Kitty 1, Comet 2, Trevic 3.

RACES TO MERCURY BAY AND COROMANDEL. STARTING ON EASTER EVE. The ocean race from Auckland to Mercury Bay will start nest Thursday at 7.15 p.m. Entries close with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron this evening. The race for centre-board boats from Auckland to CoromandM also starts on Thursday at 7p m. Entries close to-morrow at 5.30 p.m. at the "Star"' office. The man's shop. DEVONPORT YACHT CLUB. RACES TO TE KOUMA AND WAIHEKE. HARBOUR EVENTS FOR SMALL CRAFT. The Devonport Yacht Club held two cruising rafcs < Saturday afternoon, and harbour races for the small boats. The big boats raced to Te Koiima with the Squadr"n: an< * classes went to Matiatia, Waiheke, and classes under 20 feet competed in conjunction with the Tamaki Yacht Club, starting off Victoria wharf and finishing off Koliimarama wharf. The races were started from the launch Maibe, which also acted as judge's boat at Kohimarama. The officers for the day were: Starter, Mr. \V. A. Wilkinson ; judge, Mr. Fred. H. Browne; timekeeper. Captain Barnes. Mr. E. Mann officiated at Matiatia. The big boats started at 2 p.m., the entries being almost the same as in the Squadron's race, the order of starting was also the same. The result was: Xga Toa 1, Ariki 2, Victory 3. 11. L, and N Classes.—This race to Matiatia started at 2.30 p.m. From a very pretty start Starloch was first away, followed by Celox, Rabiri. Louisa, and Marie, with Wairere and Xaiad late. Celox finished first, Starloch about 4 minutes later spcond, Marie third, and Louisa fourth. On corrected times Starloch wins, with Celox second, and Marie third. Several boats were reported as not observing the fairway marks in Motutapu passage, and the result is in abeyance. The harbour events resulted as follows :— V and S Classes. —This race started at 2.40 p.m.. Magic being first away, followed by Rival and Wild Wave. Magic led throughout, and the finish was: Magic. 41i 3m 245; Wild Wave, 4h 5m 20s: Rival. 4h 12m 30s. Result: Magic 1, Rival 2. Wild Wave 3. M Class.—This race started at 2.50 p.m. There was the usual keen start, Maratea. Maroro. Manene, and Maia getting away with the gun in this order. Matarere was three minutes late and Mawhiti five minutes late. Maroro. well handled by A. Harvey, went out ahead before reaching the Sandspit, and led to the finish, which was timed as follows. Maroro, 4h "in 41s: Maratea. 4h Om 40s: Maneno. 4h 10m 425: Matarere, 4h 11m 7s; Maia. 4h 13m 17s: Mawhiti, 4h 18m 40s. Result : Maroro 1. Maratea 2, Manene 3. Mawhiti. as she passed the flagship, reported striking the mark off St. Helier's wharf. T. X and Y Classes.—This race started at 3 p.m., the starters and their handicaps being: Alerte scr.. Kismet lm, Marie 4m. Eleanor 9m. Xyria 10m. Sheila 11m. From a pretty start Alerte was first away, followed by Nyrin. Eleanor. Kismet, and Sheila, with Marie & minutes late. Kismet, sailing verr well in the light weather, went into tne lead. After a good race witli Alerte. the finish was : Kismet. 4h 25m 535; Alerte, 4h 2'im 12s : Eleanor, 4h 2Sm 20s: Nyria. 4h 34m sos: Sheila. 4h 35m 50s: Marie. 4h 47m 7s. Result: Eleanor 1, Sheila 2. Kismet 3. Star Class. —The three boats in this class, Moa. Ola IV.. and .Tune, started at 3.10 In tlijs order. Moa. well handled by Dick Mouatt. led throughout, the finish being timed : Moa, 4h 33m 38s: Ola IV.. 4h 34m 30s : June. 41i 34m 4 25. Result : Moa 1. Ola IV. 2. June 3. The three boats finished within 64 seconds.

TAMAKI YACHT CLUB.

KACES FOR SMALL CLASSES. WINS FOR MARORO, MAGIC, ELEANOR, OrAH. AND MOA. The Tamaki Yacht Cluh held races on Saturday in conjunction with the Devonport Yaclit Club for all classes under 20 feet. The boats started off Devonport and finished at Koliimarania. after rounding Snndspit. Resolution. Samls»it. and a mark off St. Helier's wharf. The popular M class sailed for a cup donated by Mr. Fred H. Browne, and after a close race Marori> won. There was a light but steady northerly breeze, which lie]<i throughout, and the course was sailed in Rood time. The results were as follows :— V and S Classes.—Drone was first off. followed by Magic. Drone led throughout, and the finish was: Drone. ?.h iiSin 3Ss: Magic. 4h 8m 245. Magic wins by 44 seconds from Drone. M Class. —The starters were : Maratea. Maroro, Manene. Main. Matarere was three minutes and Mawhiti five minutes late. Reforo reaching the Sandspit Maroro went into the lean and was not headed, the finish being: Maroro 4h 7m 41s. Maratea 4h Om 40s, Manene 4h 10m 425. Matarere -4h 11m 7s. Maia 4h 13m 17s. Mawhiti 4h 18m 40 S . Result: Maroro 1, Maratea 2, Manene 3. T Class. —The boats in this class made a pretty start. Xyria being first away, followed bv Eleanor. Kismet, Sheila. Xgaio and Marie eight minutes late. Kismet went into the lead early in the race and led throughout. The finish was : Kismet 4h 2">in r>3s, Eleanor 4h 2Rm 20s. Xgaio 4h 30m 7s, Nyria 4h 34m 05s. Sheila 4h 35m 30s, Marie 4h 47m 7s. Result: Eleanor 1, Sheila 2, Kismet 3. Y Class. —Opah. which got a splendid start, followed by Alerte. Romp, and Jupiter, led all the way. and the finish was: Opah 4h 21m 475. Alerte 41i 2flni 12s, Jupiter 4h 27in 2s. Romp 4h 30m 30s. Result: Opah 1. Jupiter 2. Alerte 3. Star Class.—Moa was first away, followed by Ola IV. and June in close order. Moa sailed very well, holding the lead all the way. and the finish was : Moa 4h 33m 3Ss. Ola IV. 4h 34m 30s, June 4h 34m 425. Result : Moa 1, Ola IV. 2. June 3. The officers for the day were the same as the Devonport Club.
