REFUSED TWO JOBS.

VAGRANT SECT TO GAOL. PREFERRED TO HANG ABOUT WATERFRONT.

"This man has been hanging about the waterfront doing nothing for some time," said Sub-Inspector McCarthy, at the Police Court this morning when Thomas Weir (37) was charged with being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of support.

"He was offered a position on a Home steamer,, while a detective got him another job, but he turned them both down," added Mr. McCarthy. "As he has not paid his union subscriptions he is not allowed to work on a coastal boat."

"I suppose If you got on a Home boat you would be too far away from the hotels," said Mr. W. R. McKean to Weir.

"No. sir; that's not the idea at all," replied Weir. "Judging by your list of previous convictions which I have here before me, I should say .that'lt was the idea," said the magistrate in sending, accused to gaol for one, month.
