OTOEOHANGA.
The annual meeting of the Tul Hockey Club was held on Tuesday night, the balance-sheet showing a credit of 10/10. Officers elected were : —President. Mr. V. M. Stagg, with eight vice-presidents ; committee, Misses L. Leatham, A. Hjde, I. Martin, J. Osmond and N. McCready ; secretary, Miss R. Isaac; vice captain. Miss L. Leathm: delegates to Waipa Association, Misses R. Isaac and R. Lockwood. It was decided to join the Waipa Association. The Paddy's Market held by the local branch of the Plunket Society in aid of the funds and tor the establishment of a ladies rest room, realised £60. At the annual meeting of the Maihihi Golf Club the balance-sheet showed a credit of £12 and the following officers were elected Patron. Mr. J. C. Rolleston, M.P.; president, Mr. F. Worst old ; vice-president, Mr J. Hollindrake; secretary and treasurer, Mr. L. Fry; club captain, Mr. T. Levien; ladies' captain. Miss E. Levien. Mr A. G Levien, who is leaving the district, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his work as secretary during the past tW At y the S annual dance held by the Otorohanga Cricket Club on Monday night, Mr. H G. Corbett was presented with a suvermounted pipe as a token of the esteem in which he is held by his fellow cricketers He has taken a keen interest in local cricket and has assisted in lifting the standard of play to a high level. Mr T. Smith, of the local railway staff, 1 clerical division, was farewelled on Tuesday night by fellow footballers, on the eve of his transfer to Hawera, and was presented with a leather suit case for himself and a travelling rug for Mrs. Smith. A local vote taken to test feeling on the question of daylight saving resulted in 60 votes being cast against the measure and none for it. The voters were practically all farmers. . .. , . An effort is being " made by the local school committee to raise funds for the purchase of a typewriter for enabling a commercial course to be given, to build a cocoa room, to supply country children with hot cocoa during the winter, and to erect a dental clinic. With 350 children on the roll, many of whom come long distances, the committee is anxious to provide all facilities, and will hold functions with this object.
WHAKATANE.
At the monthly meeting of the District High School committee, a letter was read from the secretary of the Board of Education saying that the board had resolved to contribute from its rebuilding fund half the estimated cost of erecting a new building for the secondarydepartment. The board has informed the Department accordingly, and hopes that a grant for the new school will be authorised at an early date. A further letter was received from the board, stated that it had authorised a special grant of £90 for the levelling and stumping that had been done in the new grounds. It was resolved to thank the board for the interest it was taking in providing educational facilities In this district.
