UNIVERSITY WOMEN.

The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Federation of University Women took place last evening at the University, and was well attended. Mrs. A. E. Mulgan presided. The report showed that the membership of the association now stands at 103, an increase of 32 over the end of last year. Of these 20 are associate members. In order to encourage graduates in the country to join, letters had been sent to many of these university women explaining the purpose and activities of the movement. Country members met other members at an afternoon gathering held at Dr. Northcroft's home in September. At the beginning of this year the association took up the room allotted to them in the college, and £26 was spent in furnishings. Here members can find books and pamphlets sent from headquarters. In April, the president, Mrs. Mulgan, entertained members at her home to enable them to meet Miss Whitelaw, who was visiting Auckland. In June Miss Jean Sheon, and American- graduate, also met the members, and other interesting gatherings have taken place. The year ended pleasantly with a garden party given by Dr. Montgomery in December. Dr. de Oourcey, who had now left Auckland, presented a framed photograph of Dr. Margaret Cruickshanks. During the year increased interest had been taken in the work of the association. A vote of sympathy with the Otago branch at the great loss they have sustained in the death of Miss Gladys Cameron, who has twice represented the feedration in Europe, was passed by the association. The election for the ensuing year resulted as follows■ Mrs. A. E. Mulgan, president; Miss E. M. Johnston, vicepresident; Miss Owen, secretary; Miss Yates treasurer; committee, Miss Clauston, Dr. Gladys Montgomery, and Mrs. R. G. Entrican. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Beryl Knight, the retirj ing secretary, for her efforts on behalf of the movement.
