NAVY LEAGUE.

The annual meeting of the girl's branch of the Navy League was held in the Navy League rooms Custom Street, this week, Mrs. M. M. Ifwerson presiding over a large attendance of members.

The past year hag been one of much activity for the members of the girl's branch. Seventy-five new members joined during the year, and the membership has now increased to over four hundred.

The bookwork committee, under the supervision of Mies R. Whitley, has been responsible for sending a great number of books and magazines to the ships of the Royal Navy and the mercantile marine, and also to the lighthousekeepers on the coast. We find that the crews of the tramp steamers are particularly appreciative of any reading matter sen. to them.

Street collectionsha ve been fairly numerous during the year, and the girls have helped considerably in this respect. They collected on Poppy Day, Plunket Day, Hospital Auxiliary Day, Daffodil Day, St. John Ambulance Day, and also for funds for the unemployed. Members have also assisted the City Mission and the Play and Recreation Association. At several Navy League entertainments held during the year the girls have willingly given their help. Dances have been arranged on many occasions for the men of the Royal Navy and the mercantile marine. As practically all these men have their homes in the Mother Country, they greatly appreciate the hospitality we extended to them here. The following officers were elected: Hon. secretaries, Misses D. and A. Newton; hon. treasurer, Miss J. Campbell; general committee, Misses Ifwerson (2), E. McNeil, R. Whitley, M. Rainger, D. Nilsson, R. Hammond, A. Hackett, M. Bishop, J. Macfarlane, M. Campbell, D. Edwards.
