RACING NEWS.

OAMARU JOCKEY^CLUB.

THE AUTUMN MEETING.

RUN AT WINGATUL

TO-MORROW'S FIELDS REVIEWED

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

DUNEDIN, this day.

Rcccnt rains in Otago have been so light that the track at Wingatui will be hard for tho Oamaru Jockey Club's Autumn meeting, on Friday and Saturday. After racing on exceptionally hard tracks during the summer most horses now arc taking a rest before the Easter circuit racing commences. With the exception of tho Oamaru Cup fairly good fields will be saddled up. Eiphtt stand their ground in the Autumn Hurdles, and all have been fencing well at M'ingatui in training operations. Tho winner may come from tho top-weights, Coastguard and Beauty Light. On last outing Beauty Light has little extra poundage to carry, but is in exceptionally good fettle just now. At tho Dunedin Cup meeting here he ■was with tho leaders throughout in a fast run race, and then drew away over tho last bit. Coastguard is always reliable' over Wingatui fences, and his defeat of Beauty Light over a sevenfurlongs dash the other morning has improved his prospects. Of the others Hani Prince has been jumping well. The New Zealand Cup winner Scion, who has been unable to foot it with hacks at country meetings recently, will be given his second outing over hurdles, but has nothing to recommend him.

A big field of 20 novices stand their ground.,for the Novice Stakes. Although the scratching pen will be freely used, the field wilt be so large that the start will be a big factor in the ultimate result. Clarenson and Tardy are a pair who h&vo always got well away at the barrier 1 ; rise," but Some Signal is a youngster who has decidedly good form to recommend him, and with Dumblane —who is galloping better now—may be in front at the finish.

Only seveii accepted for the Oamaru Cup, anil the top-weight Pink Note has since been turned out for a spell, leaving Overhaul at the top of the list. It is a race. Overhaul had a race at thee Cup meeting, but was not then ready, ;ind, although on handicaps he is badly ;srentcd, he will be heavily supHeather Lad is coming on rapid again, and over the distance looks fc, likely winner. He was second in Walkouafyi Cup—ove* the same distance—Sir Roy, but had to be eased off work. Lucy Locket has to carry a 71b penalty for her Waimate Cup win, but alter a long spell she has struek winning forfti; and should be' worth following;.; The others do Hot impress over a a-quarter.

The Fying Handicap should be a splendid ratio, with Circulation, Booster and Good as Gold in tisebgmt demand. At last a return to tho cxpsllent .iorm, displayed earlier in the season, and reproduction to-morrow should almost see jum winning. Of the low-weights Apple XHghtoo is one who has speed, and i^&ilne A good field oflfc&g contest the Grange Handicap, in which Puff, Little Duchess and Quickform should be in the fighting line.

On recent form Black Duke appears to be the pick in the Anniversary Handicap, but he will have to carry »n extra atone following on his double win at Waimate. At the weights, Wingatui should be well supported, while. #Ie track has only to be on the soft side for Taboo to win. As usual the trotting event# have filled out mosf satisfactorily. In the Waikaura Trot* (harness), Hoi lyOro and Logan Bra"e *iad best, while tor the saddle event—the Langdon Trot—Sonata «»nd Merrigal appear to be most dangerous.

The amended list of acceptances and weights is:— " - 1 J: f.
