HIGHLAND WINS AT MENTONE. RECORD SPRINT BY MKT?AH, MELBOURXE, .February 29. A' Newmarket Handicap candidate, Highland (9.10) won the Mentone Open Handicap to-day from Red Sea by half a length. Stage Saint was third, two lengths away. Time, 1.14. Raoumiki ana Cannon were unplaced. Merah, winner of the two-year-old division, ran five furlongs in lin, which i.3 a course record. Trivalve is not to run in the Sydney Cup, but will be starting in the King's Cup. RANKLIN RACING CLUB. Owners and trainers are reminded that acceptances for the first day of the Franklin Racing Club close with tnb secretary, Mr. A. P. Daysh, Pukekohe, or Mr. A. J.
