GOLDEN WEDDING.

MR. AND MRS. J. HINDMAN,

The golden wedding of two old colonists, Mr. and Mrs. J. Hindman, of Stanley Bay, will be celebrated tomorrow (Thursday, February 9), when an "At Home" will be held in the Farmers' Union Social Hall The members of the family and many old friends will be present. Mr. Hindman arrived in New Zealand from England in the ship Baron Aberdare 53 years ago, and Mrs. Hindman, who was then Miss Amelia Pattison, in the ship Orari 51 years ago. They were married in Ponsonby by the Rev. Westbrook. They spent the early part of their married life at Remuera when that suburb was mostly paddocks. Mr. Hindman was employed for 21 years by the late Mr. D. Nolan, and during that l>eriod. and sincc then he has been noted for his ability as a landscape gardener. He was particularly artistic and skilful in the laying out of grounds and the formation of gardens, and had the reputation of being able to take a bare paddock and make it a thing of beauty and a jov forever. In later years Mr. and Mrs. Hindman were associated as pioneers of Ostend (Waiheke) and Buckland's Beach summer resorts. Mr. and Mrs. Hindman are members of the Old Colonists' Association, and Mr. Hindman is a keen playing member of the Stanley Bay Bowling Club. Last" season he won the aggregate prize for the best lead in the club. There are three sons, three daughters and twenty-two grandchildren. The sons are Mr. J. Hindman, of Waipukurau, Mr. W. J. Hindman, of Papatoetoe, and Mr. W. L. Hindman, of Lewisham, England. The daughters are Mrs. T. ft. Smytheman,'' ofj. PapatoetO'e, v Mrs. W. Cloodwin, of Edendale, and. Mrs. F. J. Hooker, of Stanley Bay. Both Mr. and Mrs. liindmau are hale and hearty and do not look their age, and, therefore, it is no empty wish to express the hope that they may live many years to enjoy the tranquil eventide of life.
