"BIG BILL" THOMPSON.
CHICAGO MAN APOLOGISES.
SUSTAINED BY NEGRO VOTE.
(By Telegraph.—Pres«f Association)'.
WELLINGTON, this day.
Dr. W. E. Harper, a Chicago dental surgeon, was a visitor at the Wellington Rotary Club yesterday. Replying to the welcome extended to him, Dr. Harper emphatically declared, that "Big Bill" Thompson, Mayor of Chicago, did not fa any way reflect the opinions of the intellectual and intelligent classes of Americans in that city.
"'Big Bill' Thompson has surrounded himself with the negro vote and disreputable business agents, including certain elements of Labour unionism, who intimidate, rob and murder on his behalf, and by that vote he has been sustained in office. I hope this is the last session," said Dr. Harper, "and I apologise for him."
