NEW SPORTS GROUND.
POINT CHEVALIER CLUB. FURTHER OFFER BY DOXOR. Ways and means of laying out the grounds recently donated to the people "f Point Chevalier by Mr. [LUUburton .Johnstone for use as a sports area, were discussed at the first meeting of the trustees of the newly-formed club yesterday. Those present were Messrs. Johnstone, M. J. Ooylo, S. C. Jordan, »S. fi. Rose (life member), S. Dyson, A. M. Laing and C. Solomon (elected trustees). An offer to subsidise pound for pound any amount raised by the club up to £500 was made by Mr. Johnstone, and was accepted with thanks. The chairman. Mr. Covle, said tint every effort would be made to claim the full subsidy. The formation of the sports ground would lill a long felt want in the district and would also provide work for a small percentage of the unemployed. It was reported that the Government had acceded to the trustees' request that gift duty of about £130 be remitted, provided that membership of the club be open to the public. When coi'inletcd the sports are? 1 of the reserve will comprise two bowling greens, a croquet green and twelve tennis courts. The formation of one croquet green is already in hand. Mr. Rose was elected hon. secretary and Mr. Laing hon. treasurer.
