MISHAP TO STEAMER.
PROPELLER SHAFT DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. The Kaipara Steamship Company's steamer Wairau was returning from the Northern Wairoa Dairy Company's wharf at noon yesterday, after loading butter for Auckland, when the port propeller shaft was found to be damaged. An examination in the afternoon regaled that the bracket bearing, through %v Inch the propellor shaft runs, had been lost, \\hile on a trip to Helensville and argaville on Saturday night the steamer struck an object, but no notice fer'd a> Spced " as not lntcr - The steamer was towed last evening to the factory s wharf to discharge the cargo of butter, and it was then beached on a sandbank opposite Aratapu. Temporary repairs will be effected, to enable the steamer to reach the company's lepan slip at Helensville. It is expected that the steamer will be oft the run for a week, and that the repairs will proteibly cost £400.
