WAIHI, this day
A party of six men, when on their way to Waikiuo in a truck from the Waitewheta Sawmilling Company's bush mill, had a narrow escape from serious injury on Saturday evening. The accident occurred when the truck had gone only a short distance on its journey. It was negotiating a sharp bend on an incline when it suddenly leaped the rails and fell over a bridge into a gully. Five of the men immediately jumped, and the sixth hung on to the side of the bridge. Three men were injured in falling into the gully. They were:—A. Proudlock, of Waihi. married, injuries to ribs and wrists; John Stace, jun., of Waihi, aged 19, single, left ankle injured; Thomas Wesford, married, injuries to wrist and left ankle. A fourth man, .7. Honey, escaped with a slight injury to the forehead. The other two men, named Skinner, escaped with a shaking. The three injured men were later admitted to hospital.
