GISBORNE RACING CLUB.

ATARERIA'S GOLD CUP,

BRIGHT MEMORIAL TO EPISTLE

DEAD-HEAT IX TRIAL HANDICAP,

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

GISBORXE, Saturday,

The second day of the Gisborne Racing Club's summer meeting was held to-duv in ideal weather and before a large attendance. The course was very fast.. The totalisator investments amounted to £13,164, against £13,(545 on the corresponding day last year, a decrease of £4SI. For the two days investments amounted to £23,586, compared with £25,006 last year, a decrease of £1420.

Barring a small field in the hurdles, the races proved highly interesting The principal event, the Gold Cup, was won by Atareria, who left no doubt of his' superiority. The field included Huikai, selected as favourite, but who finished second to last. Garzon won the hurdles easily, jumping better than his only rival, and more than holding his own on the flat. Taku Tama also won easily fiom a moderate field in the Juvenile, but the Taruheru Hack provided a fine race, Saudburr making a late rpn to beat Royal Time and Jen by a neck. A still better finish was seen in the Trial Handicap, when King Wanga and Dreamy, first and second favourites, dead-lieated, with the fast-finishing Fall o' the Year only a nose away, third. In the High-weight Handicap, First Prince got round the bend well, going on to win nicelw

on to wm nicely. King Willonyx easily defeated the , Awapimi Hack field in standard time, and Epistle after lying well back in the early stages had no difficulty in win- ' ning the Blight Memorial. In the latter race Superb King left the run very late. Detailed results:— c SECOND HURDLES of ISOsots.
