FIRE AT LUNA PARK.

"RAILWAY STATION" CHARRED

EARLY MORNING OUTBREAK. GOOD WORK BY BRIGADE. The value of having an auxiliary firefighting plant on the spot and direct alarm communication with the city fire station was exemplified at Luna Park when the "railway station" burst into flames at six o'clock this morning.

The caretaker at once sent a call through to the brigade headquarters, and got the park's auxiliary plant to work, which consists of a hydrant at a central point and sufficient hose with branch attached to reach any of the buildings; also chemical extinguishers. The flames travelled quickly about the woodwork of the "railway station," and were mounting high when the city liremen took up the challenge. Leads of water were quickly linked from several vantage points, the fire was got under control, and danger to surrounding buildings was soon past.

It was regarded as an extraordinarily good save on the part of the city brigade, and the railway itself, which is one of the main attractions of the park, was not in any way damaged. A fire occurred at Luna Park on January 22 of last year, the damage on that occasion being of a much more extensive nature.

The damage is estimated at £2000. The park buildings and plant are covered by a general policy amounting to £23,000. b
