Railwaymen Engulfed In Big

Landslide.

ONE KILLED. (Received 12 noon.) ADELAIDE, this day. While a number of men were working upon the duplication of The Hills railway, a landslide occurred and a gang was entombed. The men were in a tunnel, which was being demolished. One man, Arthur Newcombe, of Balhannah, was killed, and six others were entombed. It is known that at least four of these are still alive. One man was rescued severely injured.

The work of clearing away the debris was begun immediately, gangs working throughout the night by means of (lave?. Several hours must elapse before the men are freed because fifteen to twenty feet of earth must be removed to reach them. Slow work is necessary to prevent the possibility of again burying them.
