DELHI, January 30,
The deaths in the train smash on the Rangoon-Mandalay main line now number 54. The total may yet exceed 100.
A mail train was crossing a, bridge near Kvautaga when it dashed into the river. The engine and three carriages full of people were submerged.
It has been practically established that the disaster was the work of trainwreckers at Kyautaira, which for some time has been a centre of disaffection.
The victims include many Burmese priests. The rear carriages remained on the line through the snapping of the vacuum brake, otherwise the death roll would have been appalling.
