HOLIDAY ACCIDENTS.
RESCUED FROM DROWNING.
SMALL BOY'S ESCAPE.
CLOSE CALL AT GREEN BAY.
An eight-year-old boy had a narrow escape from drowning while bathing at French Bay, Titirangi, on the Manuka u Harbour, yesterday afternoon. He is a son of Mr. Richard Humphrey, of New Lynn, and on getting out of his depth was soon carried away by a slight current.
An attempt by a girl to save the boy failed, and when he had come up for the third time Mr. J. Sokolicli, of New Lynn, observing. the desperate plight the boy was in, dived from a boat and brought him to the shore.
Almost immediately on being brought to safety the lad collapsed, and difficulty was experienced in reviving him. Fortunately there were present two members of the St. John Ambulance, Messrs. H. Turner and A. Buchanan, and they, assisted by Mrs. C. F. Gardner, of New Lynn, a former nurse, succeeded after half-an-hour's work in restoring respiration. A doctor who was playing golf on the Titirangi links, on hearing of the mishap, at once came down to the beach to see if he could be of service. It is expected that the boy will be none the worse for his experience.
