BISHOP CLEARY.

SUCCESSFUL OPERATION.

Many friends outside his own Church will be pleased to learn that the Right Rev. Dr. Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who fainted while opening a garden party at the Mater Misericordice Hospital on Saturday, was successfully operated upon this morning at that institution by Dr. Casement Aitken.

Dr. Cleary was under treatment at the hospital, and left his bed to open the garden party, but it proved too much for hid physical strength. Hia condition was considered so serious that prayers were offered in the Catholic churches on Sunday. The operation was performed this morning, and upon inquiry at the hospital it was learned that it had proved quite successful.
