The Government derived £3133 in taxation from the recent Whangarei meeting.

It is stated that G. Price intends to send Rawhetu back to New Zealand for a spell. Winalot, who is under the same trainer, is to be offered at auction next month.

Uralla ran well enough at tlie recent Whangarei meeting to suggest that she is coining back to her best form. She is engaged in the Highweight event at Takapuna next Saturday and is sure to be in demand on the day.

Bombarder sprinted usefully over five furlongs on the course proper at Ellerelie yesterday morning. The Australianbred gelding has plenty of pace and has shown tip on several occasions in hack races during the season.

i The locally-trained hack Yaqui has improved m condition and appears to be coming on fast. Like most'of the Quin Abbeys, he is gifted with plenty of speed,, and when he becomes solid a hack sprint race may not be beyond him.

Karamu has been sprinting very freely on. the track during the last week and is in the right condition to fulfil his Takapuna engagements. A race or two on the flat will improve him considerably for' hurdle events later on in the season.

Nastori was : responsible for a useful gallop over six /furlongs on the No. 2 grass at Ellerslie during the week. This mare , is looking well and will only teqriire to produce her early spring form to make her hard to beat among the sprinters. '• was i grveto a run 'along over a sprint course yesterday morning without/being required to do his best. The chestnut gelding was not paid up for on the opening day at Takapuna, but he may; be given a race on the second day •f' the meeting.

The Mullingar filly Handstitch, trained by J. Lambess at Ellerslie, has developed into a likely-looking sort. She .' was sprinted three furlongs on the course proper yesterday morning and displayed a good dash of pace, considering it was her first try-out.

Golden Krist was seen to advantage in a gkllop over a round on the course proper at Ellerslie on Tuesday mornipg. The Nassau gelding ran'out the distance in good style and gained a number of friends for his Alison Cup engagement at the end of this week. (

Sleepy Sol has not been required to do anything in the shape of fast work since < he raced at the Whangarei meeting, and most of his tasks have been executed on . the. tan track. The Marble Arch gelding requires the sting out of the ground-to enable him to do his best. v Cavalier was given a sound gallop over seven furlongs on the course proper yesterday morning, when the crack steeplechaser displayed quite, a lot of pace, providing he does well in the meantime, Beau Cavalier will contest the hUrdle events at Ellerslie next month.

Scaramouche has shaped fairly well in his last two gallops at headquarters, and with the benefit of a race or two. he should show up in a minor hack event. He has only had one race so far this season, but will" be given his next run on Saturday at the Takapuna meeting.

Master Doon will not lack anything. on the score of condition when he takes his place in the field for the Alison Cup on Saturday next. The brown gelding has done a solid preparation and has come through his work well. He will have the services of his old pilot, R. Reilly, in the saddle.

Qninvardia has been shaping in improved fashion on the last few occasions that she has been galloped at headquarters. J. Buchanan has the Quin Abbey mare looking really well at the present time,. and it.is just possible that she will be- seen to advantage in minor hack events in the near future.

Archibald has been sprinted on several occasions just recently, and the Archiestowngelding still retains his pace. He is engaged in the Borough Handicap at the Takapuna meeting next Saturday and should run well. Archibald finished third to New Moon and Namutere in the above event' twelve months ago.

Carinthia, Whakarite and Modest Boy recorded a sound gallop over seven furlongs on the course proper at headquarters yesterday morning. N. Cunningham has these three horses in first-class condition, while they have also had just enough racing during the present season to make thfrm nice and solid for future engagements.

Lord Thurnham, who is engaged in the Highweight Handicap at the Takapuna meeting, is now trained at Te Aroha by C. J. Carmont, sen. He has previously won on the Takapuna course, being successful in the Totara Hurdle Race at the Thames meeting in the 1925-26 season, when that club held a two days' meeting on the suburban course.

Wyoming has never looked better than he does at the present time, while his track work during the last few weeks also shows considerable improvement. In the past the Lucullns gelding has failed to run out his races over the last bit, tut with the hard tracks that are in evidence at this time of the season he should perforin better.

In the Shade has been racing lather unluckily this season, and probably he may do better at the Takapuna meeting. In seven starts he has been in the money on four occasions.

Additional riding engagements at the Takapuna meeting are: R. McTavish: Paganelli, Uralla, Ash Tray, Ulingar and King Peg; J. Cammick: Brampton, Eh Timi and Carinthia.

Dave continues to go along the right way since he annexed the double on the second day of the Whangarei meeting. Yesterday morning at Ellerslie, he hit out very nicely when galloping five furlongs in company with Archibald.

Stormy has made marked headway since joining the active brigade at Riccarton; and will probably have his first race in the South Island at the South Canterbury meeting. He and may be taken to thfe Manawatu meeting at Christmas.

Llandudno led from start to finish in the Hamilton Handicap (one mile and a-quarter) at Te Rapa last month. He carried 7.2 on that occasion, and for the Alison Cup, to be run at Takapuna next Saturday, he has 8.0. He has only got to be produced in the same form to run a good race.

Prodice won the Avondale Stakes in good style, and since then she has been placed in the A.R.C. Welcome Stakes and the Musket Stakes, finishing third in each of them. Prodice has been accepted for in the Cambria Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday, and even with 8.13 will have to be reckoned with.

Pato Dawn, a two-year-old by Kilbroney from Bon Chic, in J. T. Jamieson's stable, was produced at the Waikato meeting for the first time last month, and finished second to Avon Court. This colt| who cost 450gns at the Trentham sales in January last, is among those engaged at the Takapuna meeting on Saturday, and may run well.

Auriculus has started once this season, and that was when she accounted for the second division of the Trial Handicap (six furlongs) at the recent Waikato meeting. She is engaged in the Ponui Handicap (one mile and a furlong) on the first day of the Takapuna meeting, and if the pace is not too solid at the start, may see it out all right.

Paganelli has had two races this season, and has been beaten in both of them. At the Auckland spring meeting he was beaten by a neck by Aussie, and in the Kirikiriroa Handicap, on the second day of the Waikato meeting, he had to go under to Valkon. Paganelli is engaged at Takapuna. on Saturday, and he should be an improved horse.

True Blood formed one of Mr. W. Scholium's team for Sydney, and he was the most successful member of the party, winning the Suburban Handicap (one mile), at Randwick, carrying 7.9. The 'son of 1 Afchery has been paid up for in the Borough Handicap (seven furlongs), at, Takapuna on Saturday, in which he hss 8.5, and he has only to reproduce his Australian form to be very hard to dispose of.

Included in the two-year-olds engaged at Takapuna next Saturday is Katarena, a filly by King Lupin from Madam Rose, owned and trained by R. Hannon. She was started on two occasions at the recent Waikato meeting, but each day ran out. very wide at the turn, losing a lot of ground. However, when straightened up,' she showed a great burst of speed, finishing fourth in her first effort and third in her next outing.

Tinokoa is among those accepted for in the BoroUgh Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday - next. At the Great Northern meeting he won the King George Handicap (seven furlongs), beating a good field. Since then he ran second to Aussie in the Epsom Handicap (six furlongs)? at the recent Auckland spring meeting, and third to New Moon and Nancy Lee in the Instow Handicap at the Waikato Hynt Club's meeting.

White Wings, who is among those! carded for the Cambria Handicap at Takapuna. on Saturday, is a full sister to Agrion, being by Limond from Waterwings. White Wings was purchased as a yearling last January by Mr. W. Scholium for 725gns, and was taken to Australia for the spring meetings. She failed to get on the winning list, but the racing she had over there should stand her in good stead.

Branson has proved a great proposition' this season, and even with 9.0, he will be one of the most fancied in the Borough Handicap on Saturday, if started. At the recent Waikato meeting, with 9.2, he won the Hautapu Handicap (seven fin-longs), in 1.28, after being a long way back in the early stages. He later won a double at the Thames meeting, the distance being seven furlongs in each instance. Branson galloped well at Ellerslie yesterday morning.

Aussie has shown himself a gpod sprinter, and this season he has proved successful in his only two outings. On the first day of the Auckland spring meeting he carried 8.7 in the Shorts Handicap and beat a very strong field. On the second day, with 9.2, he won the Epsom Handicap by three-quarters of a length from Tinokoa in 1.14. On Saturday he is accepted for in the Cheltenham Handicap, and even though he has 9.11 will run a good race, if started.

The Limond-Homage filly Episode, who showed exceptional promise in the two-year-old parade at the Wanganui Jockey Club's spring meeting, but who subsequently met with a mishap through spreading when racing in the Avondale Stakes, is again getting through useful tasks, and will be a runner in the handicap event on the second day of the Feilding meeting. There is little doubt that Episode is exceptionally fast, but she may want a race or two before showing her best speed.

Mr. G- N. Magill, of Erambie, Molong, should have no reason to regret having purchased the New Zealand brood mare Cooing at the beginning of the year (says an Australian writer). Her value has increased apparently owing to the recent success of one of her daughters, Wild Pigeon, in the New Zealand Oaks, apart from the fact that Mr. Magill could probably get a nice price for her yearling foal, by Paladin, that was running by her side at the time of the sale. Cooing, who is a nicely-bred daughter of Boniform and the imported Collar mare Ringdove, is still in the Dominion, where she was left by Alt. Magill t«> be mated with Chiff Ruler. : \ 4

G. Young, who rode Pilliewinkie at the Melbourne Cup meeting, does not think the horse will ever return to his old form.

Money Order is moving along nicely at Riccarton. He appears to ha in good fettle to carry out his Timaru engagements. His stablemate, Amor, will accompany him to the South Canterbury meeting.

Solferite "has given his trainer a lot of anxiety of late with trouble to one of his legs, and it has been decided to blister him and spell him in the paddock until after the New Year meetings.

Coupling has made good progress from the ailment he suffered to one of his fetlock joints a short while back (says "The Press"), but it is probable the Tractor colt will not be iji active commission again for some weeks.

Mr. S. J. Gibbons had the misfortune recently to lose a colt foal by Chief Ruler out of his brood mare Equitas, the foal being born dead. Equitas will visit Nigger Minstrel this season and .Oratress and Windbag are on a visit to Hunting Song.

Magna Charta has rejoined the active Workers at Riccarton, and the big son of King John bears a promising appearance after his let-up, and if he gets through a satisfactory preparation he may accompany Count Cavour and Satrap to the Auckland summer meeting.

Martanna pleased trackwatchers by a gallop over six furlongs at Riccarton last Saturday. He gave Fresco and Gold Mint a good break at the start, but gathered them in after half the distance had been covered, and eventually finished well clear of the pair in 1.15 1-5. There is no doubt that the Martian colt is a much improved galloper since his racing at the Cup meeting, and his efforts at Timaru next month will be watched with interest in view of his trip to Auckland at Christmas.
