HOUSE DAMAGED.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

TAUMARUNUI, Monday,

A five-roomed house in Miriama Street, owned and occupied by Mr. W. J. Melrose, caught fire shortly before 9 a.m. to-dav.

When the brigade arrived the fire, which had originated in the washhouse, had a good hold of the back portion of the house, and the flames spread rapidly along the ceiling to the front of the building. Some of the contents were removed in time, but the house at the back was considerably damaged. The house was insured for £700 in the Victoria Office and the furniture for £250 in the New Zealand Office.
