CHESS MASTER.
RETI MAY VISIT DOMINION.
Richard Reti, one of the leading chess masters of the present day, is desirous of making a tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1928 if sufficient inducement is offered. Reti, who was born in Czecho-Slovakia 38 years ago, is the author of "Modern Ideas in Chess." As a blindfold player he holds a world's record, having played 29 games simultaneously, of'which he won 20, drew 7, and lost only 2. He has taken'part with distinction in several European tourneys, his many honours including first prizes at Gothenburg (1920) and Carlsbad (1923). The win that he scored from Capablanca in the New York international tournament of 1924 was the world champion's first loss in eight years.
The Otago Chess Club has decided to offer £25 and board and residence for a four days' visit to Dunedin. It is understood that the Auckland and Palmerston North Chess Clubs have this matter under consideration. The Wellington Club has not yet received a communication from the distinguished master. It may be added that New Zealand -has only had one visit from a chess master, and that was three years ago, when Boris Kostich, of Yugoslavia, included this Dominion in his world tour.
