EXCEEDED HIS RIGHTS.
THEFT CHARGE ADMITTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, this day. In the Pukekohe Police Court to-day, before Mr. Page, S.M., Edward Randall, aged 24, a resident of Te Whitu (represented by Mr. M. Grierson) admitted the theft 011 September 13 of £10 10/8 cash and rabbit skins valued at £4, the property of Peter Anderson, of Pollock, and also admitted converting to his own use Mr. Anderson's car. Sergeant Cowan stated that accused was entrusted by Mr. Anderson to drive his car with rabbit skins to the Waiuku railway station, and was also given a cheque for £10 10/8, a portion of which was to be given to a man at Putaruru. Instead of travelling by train Randall drove the ear to Putaruru, sold the skins and used the proceeds, together with an amount of the cheque. Mr. Grierson explained that accused received a telegram stating that a relative was ill and hurried to Hamilton by the car. He met with an accident on the way, and advised Mr. Anderson by telegram. A portion of the money he spent on repairs. i The magistrate said "conversion" in this instance was different to an ordinary case, as accused had permission to use the car and pay for half of the benzine, but he exceeded his rights. Accused was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three years; he was admitted to probation for three years on the theft charge, and ordered to make restitution within 21 davs.
