! COMMERCIAL TRAVELLER'S ' EXCUSE. i ' | PLEADS EXTRAVAGANT LIVING. i i « (By Telegraph.—Speelal to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. Blaming extravagant living for his present position, Thomas Victor Crease, aged 41, admitted, before Justices, having failed to account to E. Whiteaway and i Company for sums totalling £650 2/5. The defalcations took place "between January 1, 1924, and February 12. 1027, | accused selling to personal friends, clothing which he had been carrying as ' samples. ' In a written statement produced in Court, Crease said be was the Welling- > ton and South Island representative of s the firm at the time, and carried stocks ? of samples averaging to the value of ■ between £400 and £700. It was his duty ■ at the end of each season to dispose of l these, and pay the money into the firm's account. When, however, he r received cash for articles, he retained the * inonev, using it for his own purposes. His wages were £6 10/ a week, and his commission averaged about £100 a year. "I found that travelling about got -me into extravagant habits, and I started living beyond my means," the statement continued. "At "the end of 1924 I commenced using cash payments for my personal requirements, and found myself getting deeper and deeper into the mire." If given an opportunity he would make restitution, which he felt sure lit could do. He had been expecting matters 1 to comc to a head for some time, and was - glad they would be cleaned up. 1 Accused was committed to the c Supreme Court for sentence, bail being i refused.
