KAURI GUM BOARD.
LEVY NOT ENCBXASED. PRICES FOR THE MONTH. At a meeting of the Kauri Gum Control Board, at which Mr. M. H. Wynyard presided, it was decided not to increase the levy on gum in the meantime. The present levy of three-quarters of one per cent will be continued from November 1 next, instead of being increased to li per cent as originally intended. It has been found that the smaller levy has so far been sufficient for the present purposes of the board. In response to a request by the exporters that an allowance be made for labour and incidental expenses off f.o.b. prices when calculating the levy, it was agreed t allow 5 per cent. The secretary reported on sales of gum during the month, that, with the exception of poor or dark B2 and poor chips, most of the producers' gum on hand had been sold, also that had further supplies of chalk, light brown 2, nuts, good bold chips, and good black, been available further sales could have been made. Prices obtained during the month for producers' gum were as follows : —White gum, I range, 140/; 5 range; 160/; poor ordinary, 75/ to 80/; good ordinary, 100/ to 112/; nuts, from 70/: range bold, SO/; chips and dust, 25/ to 35/. Black gum. rescraped, 130/ to 160/ diggers' steel washed, 7-3/ to 95/; 5 scraped. 115/ to 130/; ordinary black, 36/ to 42/; light brown, 40/ to 45/; scraped 81, 66/ to 70/; black nuts, 30/ to 32/ nuts, 26/ to 28/; chips, no saleable stock on hand and no sales were made. Chalk, diggers, 26/ to 32/. It was decided to issue fortnightly reports of prices secured on the sale of gum.
