VARIETY OF OFFENCES.

OLD TIMBER USED IN BUILDING.

A large number of by-law breakers made their appearance in the Magistrate's Court this morning before Air. E. C. Cutten, S.M. Mr. G. R. Hogan, chief traffic inspector, prosecuted. On charges of dangerous driving, C. Clare, C. La ROche, A. Kay, H. Gaudin, R. A. Jordan were fined £1, and G. Crocombe, J. H. Mansell, J. R. Smith £2.

The rehearing of the charge of dangerous driving, on which Arthur Porter (Mr. Sullivan) was fined last Wednesday, was heard and the information dismissed. For failing to obey traffic officers, It. Oswald and Jaram Chalgreen were fined £1, W. A. Turner and H. M. Norther oft £2, and W. Hopper ordered to pay costs. Fines of 10/ were imposed on the following for leaving their cars unattended: J. G. Staunton, R. Cornish, P. Cropper, W. Gash, J. Butland, H. W. Cooke, C. Stephens, S. A. Bull, L. Bourdot, P. C. Margetts, A. Smith, J. P. Bell, L. Peacock, "and R. Riffkin. L. Meill was ordered to pay costs. M. Schmitt was fined 10/ for pillion riding. J. Langton was charged with failing to attach a chain to the rear wheel of his cart. The result of there being no chain was that the horse bolted after having been left in the vicinity of Queen Street. Langton was fined 10/. J. Reilly was charged by f?se Manukau County Council with using timber which had been used before without a certificate that it was good timber. It was stated that the timber objected to had now all been taken out of the buliding and was going to be used as firewood. Mr. Cutten said that under the circumstances he would impose only a small fine, although it was an offence which ordinarily should be met with a heavy one. Defendant was fined £2 with costs. A fine of £3 with costs was imposed on E. Sheppard for failing to make application to the Manukau County Council for permission to remove part of a building from one riding to another. W. Wong Kee was fined £2 with costs for allowing decayed vegetable matter to accumulate so as to be a danger to the public health. The Mount Roskill Road Board prosecuted Andrew and Andrew for permitting the ÜBe of a motor lorry without a sufficient heavy traffic license, and Lionel Greenwood for operating the motor lorry carrying a greater load than it was licensed to carry. The firm was fined £5 and the driver ordered to pay costs. I
