To Monanui has arrived at head-> quarters in charge of trainer J. O'Neill. Star Stranger, still looking on the big side, was among the horses working at Ellerslie this morning! before ' breakfast. Royal Mint and Mint Leaf were both given Btrong work on the sand at headquarters this morning, and look well, particularly the former, who appears to bo very solid. j Winalot, who won the Rosehill Guineas on Saturday, is a three-year-old colt by Rosedale—Princess Volga, and' is trained by G. Price. He is engaged in the A.J.C. Derby. Star Cod, who is a brother to Star Stranger, resembles the latter very much, although built on smaller lines. As he has only been raced once his condition suggest that, ho is farily well forward. Mr. A. B. Williams' team, consisting of Star Stranger, Star God, Joy King and Knightlike, reached Ellerslie yesterday morning, and are quartered at E. J. Rae's stables at Greenlane. Their trainer, J. H. Jefferd, is expected to arrive to-morrow. Vaward, who won at the Otago Hunt Club meeting on Saturday, is engaged in the Zealand Cup. Last season ho won four races, and was placed on several other occasions. He is owned by Mr. J. M. Samson, who has Tuki and others. > The Te Kuiti Racing Club has drawn up a draft programme for its meeting at Te Awamutu on Noverber 5 with stakes totalling jEIIOO, no event being worth less than £100. The programme includes two.open events, the Cup and Flying Handicaps, and six hack events.

Te Monanui, who is to be ridden by A. E. Ellis in the Avondale Cup, did useful pace work on the sand at Ellerslie this morning. The bay horse appears to bo greatly benefitted by his recent racing, and is looking in great heart, although still a trifle On the big side.

The Wanganui Debutante Stakes winner, Knightlike, was among the visiting liorsea to work at Ellerslie this morning. Ilis condition is far ahead of any of our local two-year-olds, and although he is not perhaps quite as solidly built as Homo of them lie is a very racy looking colt.

At a men ting of the Waipa Racing Club on Friday a deputation from the To Krtiti Racing Club was present and naked that they be permitted to race on tlio Waipa course on November 5, and olFeririg £100 for the use of the course. This was unanimousely agreed to by the Waipa' Club, Mr. H. Rothery (Te Kuiti) expressing gratitude at the Waipa Club's' sporting spirit. Permission was also granted Mr. J. G. Wynyard, secretary of the Waipa Racing Club, to conduct tlio meeting.

Limerick registered his third succes- | sivo victory in Sydney in as many starts tills season when ho annexed the Hill Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday in easy fashion, and beat, among others, Gothic, who won tlio V.11.C. Newmarket Handicap, and recently accounted for the Campbell town Handicap at Warwick Furm in I.ls, parrying 9.10. Limerick has now met Commendation three times this season, and has beaten him on each occasion. In the Warwick Stakes there were heads among Limerick, Amounis and Commendation, who were placed in that order. Hit} subsequent victories, however, were much more decisive. In

the Chelmsford Stakes at Sydney Tattcrsall'a Limdrlck won by two lengths jfe wjth Coinmenadtion fourth, while in the iMfe Hill Stakes ho again scored comfortably Ijl'MMjith Commendation unplaced. The EMMBI, nieeting will be Limerick's next msfflHmm and he and Commendation are , jt'hc Spring Stakes, run at over a "mile and a-hnlf

The New Plymouth trainer, E. George, has arrived at Ellerslie with his team, which consists of Royal Mint, Oration, and Mint Leaf.

Levenside has done well since racing at the Pakuranga meeting, and judging by his track work he is likely to be hard to beat in a minor hack race before verv long.

Additional riding engagements for the Avondale meeting are: C. Brown, Chit and Diamond Queen; T. Chaplin, Charitaine; H. Wiggins, Alloway and King Val; C. Goulsbro, Royal Mint, Serang, Flying Binge and Festina Lente.

Scaramouche is now beginning to put plenty of dash into his track work at Ellerslie, and is steadily on the improve. He has not been raced much as yet, although he may be capable of winning a hack event later on.

Archeno has been working very freely on the track during the last few weeks without being asked to do her very best. She strode over five furlongs in resolute style on Saturday morning, and with ordinary luck should show up during the spring meetings.

War Officer has trained on well since he raced at the Pakuranga meeting, and is likely to show up prominently in the Swanson Hack Race on Saturday next. The YVarplane gelding looks better than he has ever been, while his track Work also displays promise.

Archibald sprinted half-a-mile on the No. 2 grass track at Ellerslie last Saturday morning in dashing style. The brown gelding is engaged in the Henderson Handicap at the Avondale meeting next Saturday, and it would not surprise to see him run well in that event.

Karamu will not lack anything as far as condition is concerned if saddled up to contest the Grey Lynn Hurdle Race next Saturday. The bay gelding has done a good preparation, and has been displaying a lot of pace on the track whenever he has been tried out.

Sir Archie ran a sound five furlongs at Ellerslie on Saturday morning, and pleased by the manner in which he completed his task. At the corresponding Avondale meeting last year the chestnut horse ran second on two occasions, and he is again likely to show up in any event in which he is started.

Catkin, the Avondale Guineas candidate gained a lot of friend* by the way he sprinted over three furlongs at Ellerslie on Saturday. The Catmint gelding looks in great condition after his racing at Wariganui and should pay expenses on the trip to Ellerslie.

Kendal, who is engaged in a flat event on the first day of the Avondal? meeting, is entered for the Kingsland Hurdle Race on the concluding day. The chestnut gelding has not had a race for some months, and being trained away from Ellerslie nothing is known regarding his condition.

Serang has been doing a lot of useful work on the Ellerslie track for some weeks past and ran a 'very sound five furlongs on the No. 2 grass last Saturday morning. He will probably want a race or two before being at his best, although J. Buchanan has him looking in great heart at the present time.

Baby Bun has improved in condition and shaped really well when sprinted over five furlongs at Ellerslie on Saturday last. She is not engaged on the first of the Avondale meeting, bift may contest, one of the hacks events on the concluding day.

Kamehameha and Rahepoto, were schooled in company over six hurdles at headquarters on Saturday last and both gave a pleasing display. It will not be for want of condition if they fail to show up in the Grey Lynn Hurdle race next Saturday.

Te Tahi, who will be a starter in the Kingsland Hurdles at the Avondale meeting <)n Monday next, shaped well in a schooling- task over four fences last Saturday morning at Ellerslie. Te Tahi will be started in the Swanson Hack Handicap on the first day of the above meeting.

Bight and Left is doing most of liie work on the sand track at Ellerslie, and J. Thorpe has the Mack gelding looking nice and fresh at the present time. (Although he has not been up a great while the old fellow will soon be ready to* race again.

W. "Ryan has worked considerable improvement in Valsier since he took the chestnut gelding in hand. . In a couple of useful sprints at Ellerslie during, the last week the Valkyrian gelding has improved by his style of galloping, considering he is still very much' on the green side.

Automne was responsible for a pleasing performance over" six furlongs at Ellerslie on Saturday morning, when ho registered the best time over that particular distance. He is engaged in the Members' Handicap at Avondale on Saturday next and is likely to be hard to beat in that event.

J. Williamson's two-year-olds, Armenia and King Val, displayed a good dash of pace when sprinted a few furlongs on Saturday morning ,at Ellerslie. Although not as forward as their trainer would like them to be, they have done well considering the state of the tracks during the winter months.

Laughing Prince, who is down for an engagement in the Flying Stakes at the Avondale meeting on Saturday, is likely to have a big following in that event. The race will also serve to prepare him for liia contest in the Guineas, to be run on the second day of the meeting. It was at the Avondale meeting twelve months ago that Laughing Prince won his first when he led the field home | in the Nursery Handicap on the second day of that fixture.

Judging by his recent track displays, Whaka King is a possibility in a hack event at any time. He is very forward and has been sprinting well during the last few weeks at headquarters. He ran several good races last season, but usually met something a trifle too good when it came to the final test. He will lie & runner in the first division of the Maiden Plate at the Avondale meeting next Saturday, and although a big field is engaged a quick beginner such as [ Whaka King, is likely to be seen to 1 advantage.
