CANTERBURY DEFEATS OTAGO.
CHAMPIONSHIP FOR AUCKLAND.

DUNEDIN, Monday. In the" final match in the Football Association trophy competition series Otago v. Canterbury, played on Saturday at Carisbrook Park, which wag in splendid order, Canterbury had to defeat Otago by a clear four goals to equal Auckland's record, but could onlv win by 3-1, and the trophy consequently remains with Auckland. The first spell was slightly in Canterbury's favour, the visitors showing mora forward combination and sounder defence. Sutherland opened the scoring for Canterbury with a good Otago's goal was brought about by a splendid combination, Simmons scoring. Canterbury's second goal was netted by Sutherland after a heavy advance. The second half was very evenly contested and the teams showed good football and at times combined delightfully. Canterbury on the whole had the bert of matters and a third goal following * clever passing bout by the inside men practically settled the issue.
