TAKAPUNA BOROUGH COUNCIL,

The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. Williamson) presiding. With the exception of Mr. M. L. Wilkinß, there was a full attendance. Accounts for Payment.—Accounts totalling £7500 were passed for payment. Smith's Bush.—The Milf ord Progressive Association inquired whether the council would take the initiative in promoting a deputation representative of the four North Shore boroughs for the purpose of urging upon the Government the desirability of the State purchasing Smith's Bush as a reserve and park for the whole of the North Shore. A recommendation from the parks committee that a deputation from the council and influential residents wait on the Government with a view to inducing the Government to purchase the hush outright was adopted.

Silverdale Road. —The Waitemata County Council asked whether the council was prepared to contribute towards the cost of completing the metalling of the Bilver-dale-Redvale Road at an estimated coat of £4000. The county council are to be notified that there are no grounds for the borough council contributing.

I Slot Telephones.—A letter from Mr. A. Harris, Ml*., advised that the Pott and Telegraph Department had agreed to erect slot telephones at the corner of Lake and Jutland Roads, at the Post Office, at the corner of Kitchener and , Milford Roads, and at the Strand. A further telephone was to be erected at Belmont early in the new financial year. loga Road Bridge—lt was resolved, to hold a special meeting to consider the Inga Road bridge contract. Ex-Service Men.—Mr. A. H. Wilkie, representing the Takapuna Ex-Service Men's Asosciation, waited on the council and said there were a number of returned soldiers in the borough in urgent need of employment. Unless the position improved they would be compelled to leave the borough. He asked that the council should assist in putting them in employ* ment by commencing some of the necessary drainage works about the borough. The council promised their sympathetic consideration of the matter.
