PROPOSED TAUPO BAJXWAY.
REPLY TO AUCKLAND CHAMBER
(By Telegraph.—Own Correapcade&t.) ROTORUA, this day.
The Rotorna Chamber of • Commerce met last night, Mr. J. Banks, president, occupying the chair.
A reply was received from the Auckland Chamber denying that it was opposed to the Rotorua-Taupo railway, and stating that its policy was to support proper schemes and to oppo>e uneconomical ones. It asked for information re the pulping industry and any other projected industries, and the estimated population along the line of the route.
It was stated that the Rotorua Chamber had sent the information, with a Teiteration of its assertion that Auckland was antagonistic in the face of recommendations by two Royal Commissions.
It was decided to make further representations re the necessity of the Atiamuri Road receiving greater attention, owing to its being Rotorua's only outlet to the Waikato and Auckland by road. It was also decided to urge that more attention be paid to the WaikaremoanaRuatahuna route for tourists.
