"PEEPING TOM."

CAUGHT IN CHRISTCHURCH.

SEEN LATE AT NIGHT.

FIXE OF £3 IMPOSED. (Br Telnpranfc.—Own Correspoadeat.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. "This is a very serious offence, showing a morbid state of mind," said Mr. F. H. Christian, J.P., in the Police Court, when dealing with the case of Thomas Hanao, charged with being unlawfully on the premises of Steven Alexander McDonald, in Mays Road. Sab-Inspector Mathew said that for ■one time that particular neighbourhood had been troubled by a "Peeping Tom." At 11.30 p.m. on July 15 a lady living opposite McDonald's saw a man in the garden of McDonald's house, looking through a window. She told her son and he accosted Hanan, who had left his bicycle outside, and secured his name and address. Hunan was sabsequentlv arrested on tbe West Coast. Since his arrest there bad been no further instance of "peeping." Accused pleaded guilty. "This is no case for leniency," said Mr. Christian. -It is a most objectionable instance, and there are no mitigating circumstances. We considered a term of imprisonment for him, but now I think that the situation may be met by a substantial fine. Accused win be fined £5 and costs, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. Suppression of bis name is refused."
