HARDSHIP PROVED.
MOTOR DRIVER'S PUNISHMENT SENTENCE REDUCED. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent) WAIHI, this day. Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M.. to-day reheard the charge against Clarence M'cCormick of being drunk while in charge of a motor car. It was heard first in May last, when McCorniiek was convicted and fined £35,' and his license was cancelled for two rears.
Senior Serjeant McLean said the rharjro was a result of a collision on the Parroa-Waihi Road in April last. Since then MrCoriniek had been unable to oarn a living He was a man of pood character, and the police were satisfied that hardship existed. After hearing counsel, the magistrate said the facts now adduced made the case less serious. The -fine would be reduced to £15, and the period of cancellation of the license to six months irom April last. Three months were allowed to par the fine.
