The appeal made for money to provMe work for the unemployed in Wellington met with a generous response by the public, and many useful undertakings were put in Still, however, the number of. men needing work remains high, and now more money is needed, as there is not enough even to provide folly for the works on the schedule. The number of names on the unemployed register on Monday night was 481, against 438 and 377 lor the two preceding weeks. The Mayor is to make a further appeal to the publie for funds. It is generally recognised that good value is being given, on the whole, for the money spent.
