MAMAKU HILL ROAD.
TOFDRESSHVG TO BEGIN. HEAVY TRAFFIC EXPECTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
HAMILTON", this day. After a visit to the Rotorua district, Mr. M. H. Wynyard, chairman of the Highways District Council, returned to Auckland. He states that the Main Highways Board shortly will undertake work at the end of the Mamaku Hill, where a top-dressing of shingle will be applied to put the road in good order for the heavy traffic which is expected. Mr. Wynvard said the roads in the hot lakes district were in good order and the work there had been facilitated by the use of two one-man graders on the pumice roads. The graders were proving very satisfactory, and another was to be put into commission. The graders were capable of doing four cuts daily over a five-mile stretch at a working cost of approximately 15/ a mile.
