CITY COUNCIL.
The Auckland City Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. George Eaildon, presiding. Muncipal Abattoir—Additions to the municipal abattoir at an estimated cost of £10,000 were recently authorised. The city engineer was instructed to prepare working plans, specifications and detailed estimates forthwith. Seine Fishing.—"That the council support the protest against trawling and the use of Seine nets in the Hauraki Gulf" was a resolution passed at the council meeting on August 5, 1926. Last night Mr. R. E. Watson stated in a letter that a protest was being, sent io Parliament urging a measure to close the Hauraki Gulf to power-driven nets, and asking the council for its support. The resolution of August, 1926, was re-affirmed. Arch Hill Road.—Cr. Brinsden presented a petition asking for further consideration of the proposed change of the name of a portion of the Great North 'Road to Arch Hill Road. It was decided that the name bie changed. Auckland Bowling Club.—lt was decided .to offer a lease to the Auckland Bowling Club of a portion of the Domain on the eastern side of their present boundary, the club transferring in return a portion of its property on the corner of Grafton Road and Domain Street. The city solicitor i was instructed to take the necessary steps, j at the cost of the club, to enable the proposals to be given effect to. The proposed j term of the lease was 21 years at a peppercorn rental. At the request of business people it was decided to have two traffic domes placed on trial at the intersection of Sturdee Street and Customs Street West. Mr. A. J. Stallworthy gave notice to> move that negotiations be opened up with the Government with a view to having i Motuihi Island made a scenic reserve and I vested in the City Council.
