HELPING THE SICK.
AUCKLAND HOSPITAL AUXILIARY. MONEY AND GOODS NEEDED.
The Auckland Hospital Auxiliary are commencing tlieir activities for the benefit of the patients in the Auckland Hospital and Infirmary, and to help the dependents of patients in either institution in such way as may be deemed advisable. It is hoped at an early date to have a street collection in order to raise funds for the worthy objects of the auxiliary. There are over 600 patients in the Auckland Hospital, beside those in the infirmary. The large majority of these are sick poor, and although the Hospital Board and the medical and nursing staffs do all that is humanly possible for these suffering people, there is an opening for such an organisation as the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, whose object is purely charitable both in act and spirit. Committees have been formed, and anyone desirous of assisting in the work of the auxiliary should apply to the hon. secretary, Mrs. C. E. Maguire. An Investigation Committee has been set up to find out necessitous cases. All the women social workers of the city are working together on this committee, so that there shall be no overlapping. The Depot Committee is opening a small depot in the hospital grounds in a few days. This room will be open between the hours of 8.30 and 10.30 in the mornings, and between 2 and 4 o'clock in the afternoons, excepting Saturdays and Sundays, to receive gifts of anything that might be useful. Clothing is urgently needed, as often patients' clothes have to be destroyed if they are in a bad condition, and it is difficult to replace the garments. Flowers, fruit, cigarettes, and, in fact, anything at all that will give a little cheer to the sad and lonely, will be much appreciated.
