FORBURY PARK CLUB.
MORE PERMITS WANTED. LONG INTERVALS BETWEEN MEETINGS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, Thursday.
At a meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club Committee, a member pointed out that there was a very long interval between their May meeting and November meeting. Dunedin was a metropolitan club, and they had only six days' trotting here. The interval caused a loss of interest to some extent amongst their members, and also it prevented trainers starting stables. Parliament was now in session, and they might get their members to take up the matter, and see if Dunedin could not get two more days. He realised that all permits had been allotted, but their club was most unfairly treated. It was agreed that application be made to the Minister of Internal Affairs for two extra permits for the club, also setting out details regarding the position of Dunedin, and that local members of Parliament be asked to support the application.
THE ELITE.
N.Z. CUP NOMINATIONS. Essentially a race provided for the best light-harness horses in the Dominion, there was never any doubt about owners of horses who were eligible nominating, and when entries closed yesterday it was found that fo the 29 horses eligible under the conditions of the raeo no less than 22 were nominated. The conditions of the race provide that only horses who have recorded 4.28 or better for two miles, or have been handicapped to do it, arc eligible to compete for the rich stake in November at Addington, but there is a general opinion that the limit co?»ld be well tightened one or twe secciSds and the race thereby improvedThe intention is that with horses improving all the time too many are becoming eligible, even with a 4.28 limit., and that a much better contest would be witnessed if only the best dozen went to the post instead of perhaps 18 or 20. However, no doubt the Metropolitan Committee will not lose sight of the point when framing the conditions for future N.Z. Trotting Cups. The Trainers Represented. The great majority of trainers in the Dominion feel that they have plished something—and they certainly have—when they bring a horse along to that stage when he becomes eligible for the New Zealand Cup, and it is interesting to note in connection with this year's race that J. Bryce has no less than four candidates. Bryce in the past has trained the winner on four occasions, and with such horses as Ahuriri, Great Hope, Acron and Kohara to represent the stable next November he certainly has good reason to expect to be on the premises once again. Ahuriri won the race in 1925 and again in 1926, while Great
