The four-year-old Schoolmaid has been sold by Mr. A. Slee to Mr. J. Gricc, of South Canterbury. Billy Sea, who was sold at auction at the National sale for 3Sgs, has gone into J. N. Clarke's stable at New Brighton. Rey Logan, the promising four-j'car-old son of Rey de Oro, has resumed work at New Brighton after several weeks' spell. His owner, Mr. A. J. McLaughlin, was recently o(fried a substantial figure for hiin, which clTer he refused, says Hio "Press." He has now decided to racc him.
In his address to members vetserday Mr. J. Rowe. president of the Auckland Trotting Club, referred to the good work of the stipendiary stewards, Messrs. T. H. Davey and A. Mabee, during the past season, also to tbc handicapping of Mr. G. Paul, whose work had brought about excellent racing. Owing to the nominations not exceeding the number of vacancies caused t>> retiring members of the Auckland Trotting Club, Messrs. J. Rowe, T. B. Buxton, G. McMillan, H. Morpeth, •». Morrison. J. \V. Ryan (retiring members), and G. Hodgson were elected to the committee, and Messrs. IT. Chatteris. R. W. Ainsworth, F. C. Duvall. J. F. Shanley and R. Wright (retiring stewards) were re-elected stewards.
-At tbe meeting of the members of ihe Auckland Trotting Club yesterday afternoon, a suggestion was made that something should be done to perpetuate the memory of the late secretary. Mr. C. F. Mark. The president, Mr. j! Rowe, said that the club intended to do something in the direction suggested, but the form it should take bad not been definitely dccided upon. However, in the new programme drafted provision had been made for a "Mark" Memorial Handicap.
NO DECREASE IN STAKES.
Commenting upon criticism which had been levelled at the Auckland Trotting Club for not having installed an electric totalisator, Mr. J. Rowe told members at the annual meeting yesterday, that the committee had not lost sight of the matter, and it would be considered. He said it was quite easy •) criticise and find ♦fault, but he vent'/'cd to say that no trotting club in the Dominion had spent in improvements the amount paid out by the Auckland Trotting Club since 1912, the short period it had owned the freehold of Alexandra Park. He thought he would be quite safe in saying that there would be no decrease in stakes during the present season.
DOUBLE "TOTE" AND DIVIDENDS.
Mr. J. Rowe, president of the Auckland Trotting Club, is a strong supporter of the Gaming Amendment Bill which is due to come before the House at any time now. In his address to members at the annual meeting of the A.T.C. yesterday, he said that he was very much in favour of the bill, as he believed if it passed it would liave considerable effect in stamping out the bookmaker. He sincerely hoped it would become law.
