WANTED FOR AUCKLAND. COMMITTEE TO REPORT.
Tlie desire to have a botanie garden in Auckland has again been brought under the noti< e of the Parks Committee of the City Council by various bodies interested in the proposal. A deputation recently waited on committer from the University .Council, the Museum, the Horticultural' Society, the Town Planning Association, the Institute of Horticulture, and the Institute of Agriculture. The deputation was introluced bv Pro lessor H. PL Corbin. professor of forestry at the Auckland Univer«ity College. who was supported by the Hon. O. Fowlda, Professor H. W. Sagar. Mr. G. Mills. Mr. W. Page Rowe. Mr. R Patterson, Mr. G. A. Green and Mr. N. R. Thomas. Mr. E. R B. Hammond. Director of Town Planning, in a letter apologising for his absence, expressed the opinion that the question of establishing a botanic garden should be considered in any regional planning scheme. Professor Corbin sated that the object of the deputation was to request the council to set up a committee to go into the matter. Mr. Thomas indicated that it was desired that such a committee consist of experts who would determine where, when, and how such a botanic garden should be established. At the meeting of the City Council last night it was resolved on the recommendation of the Parks Committee that an advisory committee be set up to report to the committee, the advisory committee to consist of the Mayor. Councillors Brinsden, Knight, Stallworthy, Crookes and Basten, and one member to be appointed by each of the organisations that were represented in the deputation to the committee. The recommendation was agreed to. and on the suggestion of Mr. A. J. Entrican the name of Sir Edwin Mitchelson was added to the committee.
