KARA WGAHAPE ROAD PROTEST. PITT STREET OR RESERVOIR?
The members of the Karangahape Road Business Promotion Society arc concerned about the proposed change in the tramway section from Pitt Street to the Reservoir. They believe that if carried into effect the change might seriously affect established business interests. A deputation led by Messr=. Kitchener and Rendell waited on the City Council last evening to ask that this particular proposal be not carried out, or, at least, that final consideration be postponed for two or three weeks. The deputaticm informed the council 'liat at a special urgent meeting of the ciety on Tuesday last a resolution was carried approving of the proposals of the Tramways Committee as far as they affect the sections on the eastern circuit, but suggesting that the sections on the western Ponsonby circuit should be at Pitt Street, (as at present), Richmond Road and the Three Lamps. Replying to Mr. Eady, Mr. Rendell said that the seciety represented 90 per r-ent of the business men in the area. A large majority of the members was in favour of the resolution as recorded. The Mayor (Mr. G. Baildon) thanked the deputation, and moved that the matter he referred to the Tramways Committee. This was agreed to, and on the suggestion of Mr. AHum it was decided that representatives of the society be asked to attend the meeting of the committee.
