An opinion on .questions concerning the municipal electoral system was asked for in- a communication received :by the City Council from, the Auckland City Council. The points submitted were: (1)' The desirability of the division of the city of Auckland into three or more wards, for the purpose of representation only. (2) As an alternative to (1), the desirability of an amendment to the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, to provide for onehalf of the members of the council retiring in rotation every two yearsi With regard to (1), the council decided to point out that it was within the power of the City Council to subdivide their districts into wacds if they so desired, without the Introduction of any new legislation. In reference to (2), a reply is to. be sent to the effect that the council is not in favour of it.'
