"TO SAVE THOUSANDS."

LOCAL BODY AMALGAMATION. MOVEMENT IN CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The principle of the amalgamation of local bodies was 'approved by the City Council last night, when the following resolution was carried: "That in the opinion of this council, having regard to the many public improvements now in hand contemplated, such as sewerage, drainage, tramways and highways reconstruction, etc., the time is now opportune to take steps to effect the amalgamation of the bodies concerned, as such action would be in the best interests of the city, both from an economical and from an administrative viewpoint." The mover, Councillor G. K. Hunter, said the two boards he was most concerned with were the tramways and drainage. He believed the council could save thousands each year by amalgamation.
