BREACHES OF AWARDS.
"EAST TO FORGIVE MISTAKE."
MINISTER'S POLICY.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Replying to a deputation from the New Zealand Timber Workers' Federation, the Minister of Labour (the Hon. O. J. Anderson) stated that he believed it was very necessary to bring commonsense to bear in dealing with breaches of awards. There had been many occasions on which he had refrained from prosecuting because there had been a good deal that might have been said for the action of employers and employees. As long as he was Minister of Labour he intended to go on those lines.
It was quite easy to make a mistake, and it was quite easy to forgive a mistake, provided it was the first one. If the same mistake were made again, however, there could be no complaint if a prosecution followed.
