WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
The women's institute movement, which has been such a success iu Canada and England, is gaining ground both in Australia and New Zealand. One of its efforts is to enable those members who can make useful articles, pickles, or pre serves, to get in touch with buyers. In Victoria, the Australian, ever practical, has instituted a monthly market stall, and the following are suggestions on the runniag of a market stalf offered by an institute member: — The women'* institute treasurer must come along with a good supply of small change. Two members might take charge in turn. They receive the goods, place them to the best advantage on the staflv and receive the monev for articles sold. It is a good plan for those in charge to jot down the name of the person who supplies any article for the stall, with the article and its value placed against the name as each thing is brought. Otherwise there may be much confusion ! at the end. If a person brings several articles, as is often the the authorities should insist that a list be handed in with the member's name, various items and price of each. If anv article is not sold it could then just be crossed the list and the remainder added up. At the close of the meeting the treaj surer should supervise the handing over or proceeds to each recipient, the price of the article, less 2d in the shillin?. which is the commission fee retained bv the institute. Anything less than one shilling, a penny only is retained, as we do not deal in halfpennies. Thus, for an article sold at 1/6, the fee is 3d for the institute; less than 1/6 -?d only.
