SLIGHT RECOLLECTION OF

FINDING IT,

JUST OUT OF PRISON.

Thomas Macgregor, aged 54, who has just come out of prison from serving a term of seven days, was this morning charged in the Police Court before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., with stealing a bank book. Accused pleaded not guilty.

Chief Detective Cuinmings stated that when accused was arrested on June 21 he was found to have in his possession a bank book showing a credit of £110. Accused refused to give any explanation as to how he got the book. He was, on the charge in connection with which he was arrested, fined £2 or in default seven days. He chose the latter. Since, it had been ascertained that the book was the property of a resident of Takapuna who had brought it over to town on June 18 in order to do some business at the bank. On reaching home he had found the book to be missing and had at once communicated with the • bank authorities.

Mr. McKean: Where did you get the book, Macgregor?—l have a slight recollection of finding the book- it Queen Street on a Saturday night.

Mr. McKean to Chief. Detective: He has just served seven days?— Yes, your Worship. Mr. McKean: Accused will be discharged.
