DICKENS FELLOWSHIP.
THE LAW AND LAWYERS,
The Auckland branch of the Dickens Fellowship met for their fortnightly meeting last evening in their new meeting place, the Y.W.C.A. working girls' club room, Union Buildings. Mr. W. E. Arey, vice-president, presided. The evening was devoted to "Dickens and the Law," and the programme was in the hands of Mi\ G. G. Grant, who read a paper on the subject. This was interspersed with various readings from the earlier works of Dickens. The longer readings Mr. Grant entrusted to members of the Fellowship. The story of the "Queer Client" (Pickwick Papers) was read by Mr. T. Clarkson; "Mr. Bumble's Opinion of the Law" (Oliver Twist) by Miss Statham, and "The Loneliness of Chambers" (The Uncommercial Traveller) by Mrs. D'Authreau. The meeting concluded with the serving of supper. It was announced that the next would be devoted to the study of "Nicholas Nickleby."
